CAMP BOB – March 15 - 22
For those do not know Camp Bob, it is a 4-H camp on a huge lake in South Carolina. They have many rowing docks so in the spring they cater to rowing teams who cannot row at their home location. We have been going there since 2001 and have found it to be extremely helpful to the spring racing and for those who are interested in going to Junior World Trials. The dorms are basic. The camp provides 4 meals a day. But, the water…..there is so much water….. and it is safe. Rowing 2-3 coached sessions a day for a week gives your more rowing in that week than what you will probably get in the next month at Steel City. The Allegheny River flows fast in the spring and we never row when it is not safe. Adults and high school students can attend. You do not need to be a member to attend. If you travel with the team, transportation will be leaving on March 15th at 6:00 am returning March 22nd. The website address for the camp is: www.clemson.edu/yli/cooper/.

COMMITMENT FORM
Due February 26th, 2007
In planning the trip, we try to do our best with everyone’s different schedules and needs. However, the more we customize each persons trip, our costs go up therefore raising the costs for everyone. We have tried to offer a few options for Camp Bob so that some discounts can be given but keeps our record keeping somewhat efficient. The options are listed on the Camp Bob Cooper Commitment Form. Please download, fill out and return by February 26, 2007. In past years, we attempted to charge each person for the exact days that they attended Camp Bob. While a few people may have saved a few dollars here and there the overall cost of the trip was more expensive for everyone due to the additional office time required for bookkeeping. There were also people who changed their plans or did not make it down the day thye intended to that made it close to impossible for us to keep track of who came on exactly what day and who left on what day. In an effort to keep the entire trip more manageable we are offering only the options listed on the sign up form. We hope that the options are useful.
PARTIAL WEEK PARTICIPATION
Ideally and if it is at all possible, everyone is at Camp for the whole week. Laci plans a training schedule that is for a week, not for 5 days. Also, the trailer needs to be loaded and unloaded. We need almost all of the boats as well as launches and engines. Not being there at either end is not ideal and more difficult for those who are there. However, if you can only attend a part of a week, plan to come for the first part of the week. Since we are planning to go home on Saturday March 22nd , so that people have Sunday to regroup and prepare for school on Monday, I don't recommend coming for the end of the week. Also, it is difficult when you miss the first part of the camp for two reasons:
First, setting up (unloading the trailer and rigging the boats is always the hardest part of the trip and everyone should participate). The second reason is that the beginning of the week is when we do the most important technique and endurance training. At the end of the week we start to do some speed work, but that we can do at home. The miles that we do at Camp Bob in the beginning really set the tone of the season.
PARENTS and ADULT ROWERS
Rooms for parents and adults are a bit more luxurious. Towels and sheets are provided. No phones in the rooms. The food is the same as the students. Parents are welcome to attend. The camp is near an animal reserve. Charleston is also close by.
STUDENTS
The dorms are basic rooms, 8-10 bunks in a room. Please make a note of what to bring. The transportation will be provided by SCRC. The daily schedule is noted above. Chaperones and SCRC staff, will be making room checks at designated hours. Please review the SCRC Junior Contract. Rules will be enforced. A great deal of work by many people is needed to make this trip possible. We need everyone to cooperate and comply not only to help make the trip run more smoothly, but for the safety of the students. Those who do not respect the rules will not last at the camp and will be sent home at their parents’ expense.
