Our RECREATIONAL Program offers the chance to participate in rowing non-competitively. Athletes who split their time between several sports/activities, students who select rowing to satisfy a phys. ed. requirement, and those who with to participate in rowing for enjoyment can select up to three practices per week, Monday - Thursday preferred. Despite the recreational nature of the program, participants are coached in proper rowing technique and safety. Some local scrimmage options may be offered, but are completely optional.

Middle and High School participants, with or without rowing experience, who wish to row for fitness/recreation and are not interested in travel competition, may choose the Recreational Program and participate up to three times per week.

Development Program | $500

Our DEVELOPMENT Program allows athletes to spend time practicing proper rowing technique, on- and off-water safety, and enjoying the river, while working together to build healthy team dynamics. There are several (optional) races throughout the season appropriate for rowers in this program, based on skill level, allowing them to compete against others with similar skills. This program practices up to 4 days per week, Monday-Thursday preferred.

Middle and High School participants with or without rowing experience who want to develop their skills in a non-competitive environment or have other commitments that prohibit six practices/week should register for the Development Program. Athletes in this program may attend up to four practices per week, based on individual schedule and goals. Each will receive instruction appropriate for their skill level, and continue to be challenged and grow as rowers.

Competitive Program | $700

The COMPETITIVE Program is limited to experienced athletes who can commit to attending six practices per week (including Saturday). Some races will be limited to experienced program participants only, however Competitive Program rowers will be able to attend all races, including the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia, PA.

Middle School participants, in 6th-8th grade with at least one year of rowing experience who wish to discuss eligibility for the Competitive Program should contact Coach Jenn prior to registering. Please note, athletes in the Competitive Program are expected to attend six practices per week.

REQUIRED WAIVERS:

To be reviewed & completed by athlete and parent/guardian TOGETHER at least once per calendar year:

The Release & Waiver Form above should be submitted by prior to the start of the first practice. Athletes will not be allowed on the water without having completed the form!

WHAT TO BRING / WEAR

  • Any medical devices (EpiPen, inhaler, etc.) in a waterproof bag

  • Water bottle

  • Hat and/or sunglasses

  • Suitable workout clothes that are comfortable for outdoor activity, with the possibility of wind and a bit of water;

  • Sneakers (for land workouts)

  • Layers and/or a change of clothes for afterward, if needed

  • Rain gear, depending on the weather

WHAT TO AVOID WEARING

  • Clothes that are overly baggy or bulky, which can get caught in the sliding tracks of the seat. Spandex is not necessary, but clothes that are reasonably form-fitting are ideal for rowing.

  • Cotton. Cotton does not insulate when wet, dries slowly, and performs best on land. Basic tech fabrics such as polyester and fleece can take the occasional splash and will keep you more comfortable on the water.

  • Valuable or otherwise irreplaceable clothes. While rowing is not a particularly rough sport, it does involve carrying things on shoulders, close encounters with river water, and perhaps an occasional run-in with the aforementioned seat tracks. Outfit accordingly.
